Palomar and Filmoption International would like to remind you that Julien Knafo's Brain Freeze, the opening film of the Fantasia International Film Festival, will be released on Halloween weekend, October 29.
Produced by Barbara Shrier for Palomar, Brain Freeze was scripted by Julien Knafo and Jean Barbe. The film stars ROY DUPUIS, IANI BÉDARD, MARIANNE FORTIER, SIMON OLIVIER FECTEAU, ANNE-ÉLISABETH BOSSÉ, STÉPHANE CRÊTE, MYLÈNE MACKAY, CLAUDIA FERRI, LOUIS-GEORGES GIRARD, MAHÉE PAIEMENT, JEAN-PIERRE BERGERON and MARIE-LYNE JONCAS in the lead roles.
At the start of winter, in an upscale enclave where leisure and money know no bounds, a golf club contracts a morally bankrupt multinational to genetically modify its turf to keep it open year-round. As a result, the water on Île-aux-Paons becomes contaminated with a "revolutionary" fertilizer that has the advantage of melting the snow, but turns its inhabitants into mutants. Before his very eyes, 15-year-old André sees the lightning epidemic erupt, making him an orphan. Horrified, he must fight for his survival and that of his one-year-old sister, when he meets Dan, a 50-year-old security guard and poor survivalist. Faced with an emergency, André and Dan embark on an investigation that will lead them to the Club de Golf chalet. But it won't be without losing a few feathers along the way...

"Our intention was to create an intelligent fable about greed and its consequences. We could never have imagined telling a story so true, so close to a reality that no one could have foreseen...". Barbara Shrier.
Julien Knafo is a multidisciplinary artist who began his career as a visual musician on Jean Chabot's medium-length film Sans raison apparente, starring novelist, playwright and essayist Nancy Houston. A graduate of Concordia University's Film School, Julien Knafo composes original music for his fellow directors' short films, while continuing to develop his own signature style as a filmmaker. Julien Knafo also scored director Kim Nguyen's first two feature films, Le marais (2003) and Truffe (2006). In 2010, he launched Lucidité passagère, a feature he co-directed with three other directors, for which he wrote the original score. The soundtrack for this feature, starring Mario Saint-Amand, Maxim Roy and Hélène Florent, was nominated for Best Score at the 2011 Jutra Awards.
Produced by Barbara Shrier for Palomar, Brain Freeze is directed by Julien Knafo and produced with the financial participation of SODEC, Telefilm Canada, Fonds Québecor, federal and provincial tax credit programs, and the collaboration of Filmoption International, Société Radio-Canada and Super Écran.
Filmoption International is distributing the film in Canada. The film opens on October 29.
