Dell has announced two new ultra-slim Ultrabooks with Intel Alder Lake processors and Windows 11, the Dell XPS 13 9315 with screens up to 4K DCI-P3 and convertible tablet screens up to 2.8K sRGB touchscreen. On the program: fingerprint reader, infrared webcam, PCIe 4.0 storage and connectivity with 5G, Wi-Fi 6E and Thunderbolt 4.
The Dell XPS 13 9315 is a new Slim Ultrabook measuring 295.4 x 199.4 x 13.99 mm for a weight limited to 1.17 Kg.
Announced in Sky (light blue) and Umber (mauve) colors, it runs under Windows 11 or the Linux distribution Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Developer Edition with 51Whr battery and 45W USB-C adapter.
Due to its slimness, connectivity is limited. So there's no audio, HDMI, classic USB port or SD card reader.
Modules include Wi-Fi 6E ax (2×2, Killer 1675) and Bluetooth 5.2 as well as 2 USB-C Thunderbolt 4.
If a adapter USB-C to USB-A (standard) will be supplied as standard, while the USB-C to audio adapter will be optional.
This new notebook features an Intel Alder Lake and more specifically Alder Lake-U ultra-low consumption (TDP 9W) Core i5-1230U (10 cores, 1.0 GHz, 2P + 8E) or Core i7-1250U (10 cores, 1.1 GHz, 2P + 8E), both housing integrated graphics Iris Xe.
There's no on-board graphics card, of course, and the core is also made up of 8/16/32 GB LPDDR5 5200MHz low-power soldered RAM and storage. SSD M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB.
The screen is a model 13.4 inch 16/10 Dolby Vision EyeSafe with blue-light protection and optional : Full HD (1920×1200) 100% sRGB 500cd/m² (0.5 lcd/m²) tactile or notbut also 4K (3840×2400) 90% DCI-P3 tactile 500cd/m².
A webcam Infrarou720p HD geo-tagging tops the screen, allowingbiometric authentication by facial recognition via Windows Hello technology.
This technology is also used by the fingerprint reader integrated into the power button.
The webcam also has the special feature of being equipped with a ambient light sensor and a human presence sensor.
So whenno humans detected in front of the PC, which is locked and consumes less energythanks to Express Sign-In.
The Dell XPS 13 9315 also features speakers (2 x 2W) and a backlit chiclet keyboard (1mm stroke).
Equipped with the smallest motherboard ever made by Dell, the new Dell XPS 13 9315 in aluminum CNC machined is cooled by a single fan. Despite its slimness, heating should be limited by the on-board low-power components.
Expect to pay $999 for a Dell XPS 13 9315 with Core i5, 8GB LPDDR5 and 512GB SSD running Windows 11, versus $1,349 to upgrade to a Core i7, 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD.
The Ubuntu edition starts at $949.
The Dell XPS 13 9315 2-in-1 is distinguished by the fact that it is a Hybrid Ultrabook or a Tablet to which we can relate a magnetic chiclet keyboard with holder/pocket, sold separately.
The screen is a model 13 inches square format 3:2 Dolby Vision EysSafe 2.8K/3K (2280×1920) tactile multi-touch 100% sRGB 500cd/m² HDR400 with Corning Gorilla Glass 7 protection for finger and hand protection stylus optional XPS Stylus, which can be attached to the top of the screen.
What's more, this 2-in-1 notebook integrates a 2nd 11megapixel 4K webcam on the rear, and entrusts its RAM to a soldered 8/16 GB LPDDR4x 4266MHz module.
What's more, it offers the added bonus of an optional 5G in terms of connectivity, while its battery is a 49.5Whr edition.
Announced in Sky and Slate (dark blue) colors, it measures 292.5 x 201.2 x 7.5 mm and weighs 560 grams in Tablet mode versus 736 grams in PC mode.
Dell does not specify the base price of its expected new Dell XPS 13 9315 2-in-1 this summer.
